The Plaza Group, a leader in the international petrochemical marketing industry, has announced Tony Chase will join its Board of Directors effective August 1, 2012.
Randy Velarde, The Plaza Group President, said Chase is an important addition to the Board, which is instrumental in ensuring disciplined business processes, better business practices and a consistency of approach looking toward the future for The Plaza Group. “The Plaza Group is honored and privileged to welcome Tony Chase as our newest board member. His insight and knowledge will be invaluable as The Plaza Group continues on its path of significant yearly growth and faces the increased demands of expansion,” Velarde said.
Tony R. Chase, in addition to being The Plaza Group’s newest board member, Tony R. Chase is chairman and CEO of Chase Radio Partners and ChaseCom, L.P., a provider of customer care and customer acquisition services to large clients with large customer bases. He is chairman and co-founder of The Telecom Opportunity Institute, which provides technical literacy training at no cost to at-risk communities. Chase also serves as a tenured professor at the University of Houston Law Center. Chase began teaching communications law and contracts at the University of Houston Law School in 1990, where he received the Edith Baker Faculty Award in 1994. He has been a regent of Texas Southern University since 1992. Chase’s accolades include: 2001 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Business and Professional Men’s Club’s Businessman of the Year in 2000, Lamont Godwin National Achievement Award from the Rainbow Push Coalition, the Outstanding Young Businessman Award from Texas Business magazine, the Williston Prize in Contract Law from Harvard Law School and the Endicott Saltonstall Award from Harvard University. He serves as a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Leap Wireless International, Inc., Cornell Companies, Inc. and is chairman of the Houston Zoo development board. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and serves as a director of the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast and Houston Parks.
